fun..Dog like fish... seen any

I don't know how well they would do with the larger more aggressive cichlids, but loaches are very active and boisterous! I have some in a tank with bolivian rams and angels. Mine chase each other all over the place, and they always investigate when I come near the tank to see if I'm going to be feeding them. And it's really cute when they get excited about their dinner, they start making clicking sounds as they gobble up their food.

Dollar sunfish and bluegill are very doglike, they beg and will allow you to handle them if you train them to it. I'm willing to bet many other sunfish species are as well.

And speaking of the subject, a link to a beautiful picture of a dollar/warmouth combo from over on nanfa http://forum.nanfa.org/index.php/topic/11719-boss-hogs/

Those are gorgeous!

I really like Ctenopoma Acutirostre. They are a little more shy than most of the fish listed so far, and like to stalk other fish from the plants. Mine regularly begs for food though and follows my finger on the glass. He doesn't let me touch him, but I don't really try, and he's small still. He would likely become alot more docile as he gets bigger.

Puffers are my fave for a real "pet" fish.

+1 on the black goast. my grandma had one for 12 years and it would come out and swim around you hand when you put it in the tank. best fish ever

Pumpkin Seed sunfish...

these fish are kinda creepy aware of things going on out side of its tank..mine follows me around and watched me do things...begs for food and eats out of my hand..amazing fish and amusing to interact with! not to mention they are LOVELY! ^_^

here is mine.(he lives in a tank outside.. so algae is all over the glass)

Thanks all, and please keep the suggestions coming... Does anyone have any experience with mbu puffers? I would like some big boys swimming around my tank?

Puffers would have to be kept solo
The big ones woulnt mind biting you so I'd get a mid sized puffer

Bettas when kept in a filtered tank with a heater are very dog like
Goldfish area little slow on the bonding but live longer than most fish

I would +1 the puffers. They are great personality wise, but I wouldn't try to hand feed them. Those teeth (shaped like a beak) can be pretty strong! They are great to watch hunt though, one of my all time favorite fish tank activities was watching my puffers hunt snails.
