Hello people!

New to these fora, new to the hobby.

I just noticed that one of my two plecostomi has fungus (cotton-like growth on the lateral fins) and after a 1/5 water change this morning I administered Binox and removed the carbon from the filtre. Is Binox harmful to the rest of the tank population? On two occasions when I was treating for Ich (I used Malachite Green and Formalin) the Paradise Fish and Dwarf Gouramis hanged on the surface gasping for air, their colours changed to really dark, and died within 3 or 4 days.

36 gallon tank
1 Colisa lalia, Red Blood variety (bought 2 days ago, not eating)
2 Plecostomi (possibly Trinidad)
2 Colisa chuna, red variety
2 Colisa chuna, golden/yellow variety

Any info is much appreciated.

Never heard of binox, but malichite green is pretty rough on some fish. For a fungal infection in plecs, I ususally use jungle labs fungus tabs.. tank buddies brand. For such a cheesy looking product, it actually does work in a few days, and is very low impact for everything in your tank.

For more serious outbreaks I use pimafix.
