Fungus Problem

I have a Red-eye Tetra in my 29-gallon with what looks like fungus behind his dorsal fin. I haven't seen him eat, and the other tetras are chasing him around. Now I can see another tetra with a spot of fungus. I want to quarantine them, but I don't have a seperate tank. What should I do?

A ten gallon tank is a lot cheaper than replacing a bunch of dead tetras, just food for thought. I can get a 10g for $8 around here. In a pinch you can get a cheap corner airbubble driven filter, fill it with media from your tank (ie, established) and some tank water for a "ready for qt" tank.

My first line of attack on such things is 1tsp salt per 5 gallons of water (add over the course of a day for safety on tetras) and add Melafix.

it sounds exactly like what has been killing my guppies. Right now i have one guppy left (that seems unaffected), but still treating the tank just in case. I started with Maracyn for five days, now i am on Melafix for the recommended 7 days, then moving onto quick cure (malachite green and formalin). If you have figured it out let me know. The ones of mine that had the fungus ended up with holes in their sides where the fungus was.
