This morning I noticed that two of my mollies have some tiny cottony patches on their tails (I'm assuming fungus). They are in a 55 gallon planted (mostly swords, crypts, val) tank. Any recommendations for treatment that won't kill my plants? Water parameters are great, I plan on doing a water change tonight regardless. I've heard of adding salt, but how much can plants tolerate?

Salt!!! Yes that will help your fish, actually they would have never got ick if you had it in the water all the time.
How much, I use 1 tbsp per 5 gallons with live plants.

For a day or 2 after the fungus is gone. Fungus will come back most of the time in the saem spot when your fish are stressed. I usually will just monitor the fish and see if it will clear on its own. Sometimes it does. As long as the fish is acting ok and eating the leve alone method is the one I prefer. Remeber when you put the fish in the one gallon of water, that you are going to cycle that water, it will get nasty very fast. Youre ammonia levels will rise quickly with hese fish in 1 gallon of water.

Also, black mollies don't do well without some salt in the water at all times. It keeps the water hard for them. THEY NEED THAT!
