I just finished up a 50% water change. I grav vac, scrubed the sides of the glass with my brush and cleaned the hood. I go through all of this work and when I turn my XP back on it shot out chunks of flesh tone stuff into my tank! What does this mean? I change the media when it needs it. Ive cleaned out the return line. do I have to take the filter apart and give a good cleaning?

How long has it been since you cleaned the filter and ran a bottle brush thru the intake and discharge tubing?

I would guess its in your hoses. I had this happen with mine before, pretty gross. I bought replacement tubing and replaced on tube, then cleaned out the one I removed and put it aside till the next time. The following month I changed out the other hose, cleaned it and put it aside. I ahve only had to do this once, but I have the extra hose/tubing if I need it for the next time.

If I had Funk coming out of my filter I would be on the phone with George Clinton to see if it's marketable...:headbang2:

yeah, probably in the hoses or you're jostling something loose when you clean.

Its been 2 weeks for the hose and a month for the filter media.

Ill get a seccond hose for both intake and return line just to make sure.

OK, so shoot me now...
Gonna hafta go download that now...been running thru my head all day...haven't heard it in ages.

Gotta get in ALL the nooks and crannies...cleaned my beer tap the other day; you don't even wanna know how much crud was in it...:silly: beer tastes better now though!

On my xp's I have green scrum growing on them if I dont clean them. Every once in a while, I take apart the tubing and run it clean with a scrubber and a long stick. But seeing that you only had the tubes for just 2 weeks, this can't be the problem.. In that case I don't know..
Word of advice for the rena xp's, their tubes get really "nasty" after a while, so clean them! or else you'll see green gunk flowing in your water when you turn it on. I have 3 xp3's and all of them have this problem. ~

Its a bacterial film and is not a huge concern. If it bothers you just put your outlet into a container at start up or you can use reinforced silicone which costs an arm and a leg.
