As far as I can tell, it works for any two cities in the US (haven't tried Canada) and Europe, even if you want multiple stops (say, go from New York to Munich to Paris to San Francisco ). It also works in German and French Google, haven't tried other languages. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell me how to get to Japan or other continents... ;P
