My hermit crab keep climbing up my air hose that goes to the bubble wall in my temporary tank. He does pretty good, will get to the top and then fall, then try again a few times before he gives up for a day or so.

Here are some pics. Click the thumbnails for a bigger pic.

Don't think I have any hermits anymore, but when I did, I'd see them catcha ride up the side of the tank on a snail. :)

haha, ya he is big.. almost too big for this tank, so I can't wait to get him in my new tank... I got the biggest one there hoping I wouldn't have to get different shells for him.. So far so good. Now that I think back though, I would have rathered getting a few smaller blue legged hermit crabs.

actually, while we are on the topic of the hermit crab, has anyone ever heard of a hermit crab eating a fish? It was most likley a dead fish, but either way the other night before bed I noticed one of my clowns was looking sick, and I figured it was on its way out. The next morning it is no where to be found. I have sifted through all the sand, and looked everywhere, even on the floor, but I cannot seem to find it. Would the hermit actually eat a dead fish? and if so, would it have been able to eat the entire thing over night?

Yes, hermit will eat anything they can get their claws on. That's one reason I'm not fond of them--they kill snails to house shop. Larger ones, like yours, pose a threat to sleeping fish, as well--even healthy ones. A dead one will be gone very quickly.

Well that explains it. ****, I sure hope the clown fish was actually dead when he ate it. That could have been nasty. My other clown sleeps along the bottem as well, and would hate to see it dissapear. I would hate to get rid of it now.. Maybe once I get everything in the new bigger tank it will be better

This is an old post but I'm just wondering what you have as a clean up crew in your tank. I am sceptical about getting blue legged hermit crabs for the same reasons you mentioned. What are alternatives for clean up crew that can deal with bubble algae and usual detrius?

BTW, I have emerald crabs, mex. turbos, nassarius, scarlet cleaner shrimps, and asteria snails
