... not ha ha funny, but Oh Crap, what do I do now funny... sigh.

So I go to my local fish store and see the coolest fish I think I've ever seen. This keep little pleco with white spots. He's all of an inch and a half long. He's listed as a 'gold spot pleco'. They had exactly one and he was $13. I thought, I don't like plecos, but I talked my self into him after the LFS guy (someone I used to trust), said, "this is one of the small ones... nine inches tops".

After some research, first turning up nothing on 'gold spot anything'. I checked out Planet Catfish, at about the same time I posted in the "What Pleco do you have" thread here. Within minutes, both threads had the same result...

Within 12 months or so, he's going to be a foot long and eating my cories. Within 2-3 years, he'll be two feet long and hanging over the edge of my tank. When he reaches his maximum size 39 inches!!!! He'll probably be chasing my cats... not catfish, but my 20 lbs bobcat.

Yeah, you saw right. This things is going to get to a little over 3 feet long.

My favorite quote from the Planet Catfish page "easily be the dominant fish of a 1000 gallon aquarium"!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?

Yeah, except my wife and I agreed that I can't get a larger tank. I can get one 29 gallon or smaller tank in addition to the 55g.

I guess I'll keep until he starts eating my neons and then sell him.

I don't think plecos eat other fish unless they are sick or dying (the other fish, not the pleco).... *sigh* I wish I could take him off of ya when he gets big enough.... but I think the drive might be a little much for me...

good luck with him, Ogre... there isn't a lot of time to appreciate him since he will be growing so quickly...

Sorry for the dilema, but that part cracked me up. Time for a heated pond!

I'd return it to the LFS, using the reason that he gave you faulty info for it and there is no way you could keep him at the size he will attain unless you have a pond.

LUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the only one i've actually seen in a store was about 7 inches and $170

i think you have plenty of time until it gets too big, and then you can make a nice bundle off the sale.

wait, it'll eat cories? ones that are alive? hmmmm.
