i have mine in a 30l with 2 orandas, he's scared of them, he has his cave, no heater water stays about 78 he's molted and seems happy except the goldies are such pigs they smell, his food and try to get it under his cave..

I'm sorry to say the tin foils can get to 14" - 18" and they do grow pretty fast i have 2 and they are 8" and only 6 months old. I know you want to know about the cray and like everyone has said they will try to catch the fish and crawl out if they can. i have a blue cray and he is in a 29gal with 5 silver hatchets and one albino rainbow shark and are fine. it all depends on the cray.
I tried the crayfish and fish combo before and it didn't work.
Even though the fish were larger, the crayfish was attacking/ hitching a ride on one of my rosy barbs. When they were too small to attack the fish, the fish ate them. Gave up and got rid of the crayfish.

As someone else mentioned a secure fitting lid is probably the most important element of a long term successful crayfish husbandry. Disregard their clumsy bulky appearance, they are masters of escape. Primarily escape attempts happen, I've found at least, after being moved or introduced to a tank.
Most of the fish that I have in the 60 were there before I put the crayfish in, so I didn't choose them specifically to be crayfish tankmates.
The only fish that I added after the cray were a handful of male feeder guppies. They're cheap, and since my cray has trouble grabbing on to things that aren't sitting still, I figured their relatively small size and the fact that they're always darting around would be a plus.
i have my cray with my goldies well i did i have seperated them now, only as there getting to big to live together.
the onlt thing the cray done to my fish was split the goldies tail. all healed now.
my black moores took more of a beating tho but are getting better, so would try with cheap fish or any fish you dont care for.
i have no heater and they are healthy molting great temp is between 60 an 70 degrees.

I have personally watched a 5 inch cray take on a 7 inch pleco.. and if I didn't physically separate them, probably would've won. I don't tryst crays with anything.
I keep my new cray in a 10 with guppies... I started with 10, down to 6.

wow. my tank is at 78 now and everyone is happy. it will be a few weeks before I add the crayfish (I want everything to be perfect for him). I need to get some more plants, and possibly move ppl around b4 he gets here. Thanks to everyone for the advice!

I have roughly 9 blue crayfish in my 72 gallon bow front setup. The smallest one is roughly 1 1/2 inches, the biggest is around 3 1/2-4". They and my other fish seem to get along just fine. The clown loaches are the only ones who seem to get a little torn up, but thats because they tend to just lounge around. I feed them sinking shrimp pellets. They don't seem to be scared of coming out to play. I have lots and lots of hiding places setup in the tank, but they also like to build there own.
All the fish except for the loaches and scat are 3+ inches long with the pleco being the biggest at over 6". I've got 3 silver dollars, 2 mono's, 1 pleco, 1 pictus cat, 2 clown loaches, 2 african chiclids, 1 green scat, and 9 blue crayfish.
My water temp is around 80F and is brackish. No issues with my heater in there. I've got dual aquaclear 500's and a ebo jager 250watt heater.
