future tank

I am starting to plan my a future tank. I do not want to start it now because I will be moving in about a 1.5 years. (I am very eager to get it plan started). However, I saw some gold severums at the store and love them. However, the tank most likely would be centered around tiger barbs. I do not know what size tank yet, but larger than 80 gallons. I am going to save money over the next 1.5 years for it, so will go with the biggest I have money and space for! I would like to know if gold severums would work with tiger barbs and zebra danios. And is it okay to just have one severum. I would like to avoid breeding aggression. Or maybe 2 females. I have also heard that larger tetras can work with severums. Any suggestions on types that would work. any suggestions would be great. also if you have a different tank list in mind I would love to hear it.

The zebra danios are not a must for the tank nor are the gold severums. I would like a larger fish though.

I am in the same boat you are only moving a little sooner and keep daydreaming about the perfect setup. I'm about to get a job where I would be able to afford a nice tank and all the supplies (finally about to be done being college broke). Then after this move I will move again in 1.5 years but I just can't wait that long to get a tank but then again mine won't be as big as yours. Here is the setup I am thinking of (smaller and more community based than what you are looking at):

36 Gallon with some neon tetras, guppies, shrimp, and african dwarf frogs and then if there is room I will add some yellow killifish I really like from liveaquaria.com. And for the first time I want to go with live plants with maybe a black substrate cover.

I originally fell in love with dwarf puffers and thought about doing tiger barbs and other semi-aggressive but then changed my mind because there were so many community fish I loved.

Ugh but waiting is forever. I just want to get the tank and start cycling. Not to mention I think my cats would love the entertainment of an aquarium.

hurricanejedi--sounds like a nice set up. My 10 gallon tank has black gravel. I have only had it set up about 2 weeks, but like the look so far. It also has a few live plants and I am growing plants from bulbs. (they are starting to grow!)

My cats really enjoy watching the fish I have. I would go ahead and set it up now, but I already will be moving 3 smaller fish tanks (30 gallon, 20 gallon, & 10) plus 3 cats and 3 dogs. Adding another fish tank would be way too much for me to move. I am really excited about getting another tank! I wish it would be easier to move it. The tiger barbs will get an upgrade because they are in a 10 gallon. I bet they are as excited about the move as I am .

Gretchen...have you thought of discus...? They really aren't for the novice aquariast..but you have a few tanks so it's not like really new to you....

If I could get a larger tank like you are thinking of doing...I would go for some discus in a planted tank....beautiful fish ! But you do need to read up on them and decide if the extra care would be worth it for you.

They are beautiful fish. I do not think I am ready for them from what I have heard about them. I might not wait to set up the tank. I am not doing anything until I finish my research and stocking list--to make sure I get a big enough tank for what I want to stock.
