Fuzzy White Stuff Growing in Filter

i noticed a funky smell coming from my filter and looked in and saw this monstrosity growing in there.

what is it? should i be concerned? should i clean it out?

Just rub it off under running water & rinse out the filter box

its probably just some mold and some particles that have been building up over time.

mold, harmless, just smelly and unattractive

just shake it out in a bucket of water from the tank that you take out for water changes.

Nothing to be alarmed of. I run in to this stuff frequently. I do more maintenance now and it happens slightly less. But no reason for concern bro.
