FW: 10g is reborn....

arggg cant wait for tomorrow-thursday lol someone on another board was kind enough and agreed to send me some soilmaster select so i will make the bottom layer sms and top regular gravel. The rotala that i wanted to place in the back will be replaced by stargrass.

HC should be arriving tomorrow + some riccia but not sure if i will use it in this tank... oooooh cant wait....
 
You may have some trouble with planting the hairgrass in the soilmaster. SMS is so light that it may not hold down the grass. I put some down in clumps and could barely get it to stay in place. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the heads up Q, yee i was told that its very light but over time will turn somewhat "heavy/muddy", I will add w/e amount i am getting to the bottom and on top will add an inch or so of gravel. so I dont think i should have a problem planting.
So is sms similar to eco complete?
How would it rate against eco complete, flourite, aquasoil? what would the order be like
 
looking forward to seeing this tank grow in...something tells me it will be one of those landscape 'spectaculars' amano style (?)
 
Nvm Q lol i got the answer from the person who sent me the sms, he said compared to eco/flourite/aquasoil it would be #4 since its an inert substrate..
Well I just washed the sms (took a loooonngggg time) and added it to the tank.
It was a pain in the butt to take out the dwarf hairgrass that i already planted but hey.. i can always break my back some more planting it later..
For now the tank is somewhat cloudy still from the sms, I threw in a few plants to speed up the cycling, and later today will add some baby mollies so they can do their pooping thing..
Today, I have also received a package from StereoKills, he was nice enough to send me some shrimps and a few plants as a trade. For now they will need to stay temporarily in a breeder tank until this tank cycles.. (anyone know how soon i can add them???)
Well back to planting the dwarf grass again.. Updates will be up later this week.
 
Soilmaster select is far from inert. Many use it for planting as a cheap alternative to the other soils. It may not measure up to the others as far as plant growth is concerned but at $10 for a 50 pound bag it is much more affordable for the economy minded. A quick google search will bring you scads of info in forums where people have tested it and compared it to other soils.
