FW 10gal Bonsai build.

So is soilmaster select just normal soil you can get and the peat doesn't that drop your PH like crazy is this good for plants could you please explain your choice for substrate for me?

I have used all SMS in tanks and I have used peat and SMS.. all these tanks have done well. I wanted to try something a little different with the sand from the stream so this layering scheme is really just an experiment. I don't care what the PH does since no animals will intentionally go in for several weeks. I like my tanks settled down before introducing the inhabitants. There is less stress all around. I'm sure in a few months time the tank will only resemble what it looks like now.

Thanks that is a really nice tank though I am jealous! Good Job Q

Upon rereading I see I didn't answer a question. Soilmaster Select is a fired clay product which looks kinda like kitty litter. It was sold by a company called Lesco. It was used to absorb water on golfing greens and baseball fields. As it turns out it works well in the planted aquarium. The replacement product they now sell is called Turface.

This is very interesting q, are you hoping that the dwarf sag is going to fill in densely? The tree looks amazing.

I'm not sure if I like the sag. I may go with something else. If i do it will be a lot of work since the tree is very delicate and I'd have to work around it. I still want to add more rock.

Thanks for answering my question I just figured I would let you go on your way and figure it out on my own.

That set up is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Awesome job Que!

Great looking tank Que and perfect eye to place! The tree already comes across as very believable. Any thoughts on changing the backing to a different color to add contrast? I recall that 'tree' ADA tank had a gradiated white background (I believe)

I have a blue gradiated background on it now but it doesn't show through. I will be trying different backgrounds until something works right for me.
