FW Puffer Question

We have had great success with our two DP's and three emerald green Cories. The cories stick together and the DP's don't ever seem to notice them. In fact, our male DP, Rocky likes to hang out in the castle during the day, many times you will see him along with all three cories in there together. Mind you that we bought all five fish and added them to the cycled tank at the same time (within a day of each other). It has now been 11 months since we bought them.

Good to hear, but keep a close eye on the cories as I personally as well as others have had negative experiences with them. Sitting on the bottom with high fins exposed seems like too good a treat for the puffer to pass up. Watch out for nipped fins and move them at first sign of it.

There are some folks who can differ in oppinions and remain civil about it. We agree to disagree!! In sharing my experience, I was not trying to advocate the mixing 100% of the time, but it can work.
From the article posted by RTR
As with any rule, however, there are always exceptions, and this one has a few. While most species of Puffers do best alone, there are a few that will tolerate tankmates. This article needs to be prefaced with a disclaimer: “Puffers, as a species, are individualistic - and while one Puffer may get along with tankmates, a different Puffer of the same species could be completely intolerant of anything else in their tank.” For this reason, if you decide to keep multiple Puffers in the same tank, you should have an alternate tank available just in case things don't work out.

The last sentance quoted is important too, not only with multiple puffeers, but with any fish you put in with them. I also wonder why, if shrimp may or may not be ok, that people suguest them as possible tankmates. Again I see no difference between them becoming a meal and some other inexpensive fish such as danios or neons or whatever. When I did keep my dp in with other fish, the slight ovefeeding helped keep up the snail population, and every day or so I would crush some of them for the puffer to eat. The other fish showed little interest, or just never saw them in time to eat them.

I agree, I was just saying I'm glad it didn't turn out like some other thread, with people attacking each other and getting banned.

Actually this thread should be a Freshwater discussion.

In the Brackish Froum, it says "puffer threads go here!", and I know that all the puffer people hang out in the brackish forum.

Again, THANK YOU ALL!!!!
