at my friends house he has a large shrimp lookin thing thats about 3 inches long is see-through and has red eyes. it looks like a giant glass shrimp. he caught it in the stream/creek by his house. i want one what the heck is it????

im gonna get a few of them from him. ill have to take a pic then....

is it a threat to fish?? it didnt seem like one but all the fish in his tank are convicts and aust. rainbows.

Your friend lives in Texas too, right? There are some big catadromous Macrobrachium shrimp down there that are clear when they're small. When full grown they are enormous, and definitely a threat to fish.

Do a Google search for "Macrobrachium carcinus". I believe that's the common species in TX.

It could be a close-to-full-grown Macrobrachium ohione (probably female, in that case), which stay smaller and are less dangerous to fish. On the other hand, it could also be a young M. acanthurus or M. carcinus, which are just as interesting and personable (will come to recognize their feeder) but do better in their own aquaria. The other possibility is M. olfersii, but you didn't mention asymmetrical claws, so I'm considering this less likely.

There's really no way to be sure without some photos, but I'll be glad to help ID them and provide care information.

its not Macrobrachium carcinus. they dont look like any of these mentioned so i have no idea what the hell it is. ill get a pic as soon as i can.
