I just wanted to know about how many gallons is required to keep a happy, healthy freshwater stingray. I've read that they get pretty large, and I know that they love to swim around. I wanted to properly research this before making my final decision. I would like to know dimensions and how many gallons, if possible. I've always been fascinated with Stingrays and I believe I am ready to take on the challenge of keeping one.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

i have heard 150 minimum for the smallest ones, which get to about one foot in diameter, not including tail. it is also better to have more width than height.

Yeah, I've read the width to height ratio. That would also work a lot better since I wanted to keep an arowana with it too, and those get massive.

Do you think a custom tank would be better?

yes, that is pretty much the only way you will get the width you need without wasting money on a tank too high for the ray to use the height on, assuming a custom tank doesnt go more expensive than a standard tank with the same footprint.

I found a size that would work pretty well I think. Its a 150 gallon 76"x24"x30" acrylic. I'm just worried that the ray won't be able to turn around very well when it gets larger.

if you get the absolute smallest types that get 12" diameter not including tail they should be able to trun around fine in there. if you get them make you YOU know exactly what type you are getting, dont just go by what the label at the pet store says.

Of course. I'm not an average aquarist :D I fully research before I get myself into anything. Thanks for your help!
