I got the second HO fixture you have listed. Was pretty easy to wire and setup. Took about 30 - 45 minutes overall. What halted my progress was figuring out what the red wire in the fixture did. I was told to cap it off as it was for stringing many units together. Wrong. It was for one set of the bulbs. I had to wire the red and white together to get the whole thing to light. Eventually I'll end up putting a switch into it to run 2 lights on 2 off instead of the full 4 at one time. Great deal IMO for those with limited funds....

That 24" doesn't appear to be HO since it includes only 14 watt NO bulbs.

In a pinch I picked up a 2X24w T5HO 2' fixture from the local hydroponics supply for under $50

They have a 4' 4 bulb T5HO with bulbs for $149. 10' power cord, switch, polished reflectors, electronic ballast, hangers included.
If you pick it up locally they'll usually mix/match bulbs at no charge also. Not as sexy as the "Aquarium" fixtures...but those 'hydroponic' guys really know their stuff :)

It was HO takes two 39 watt bulbs it had a sign below it on the shelf that said "New Item". Only problem is they only had one size not a selection in HO just the 48".

If they are selling T5HO fixtures at HD, I'd be curious to see how long the ballasts will last, especially if they come from China. And stay away from the Deep Blue fixtures. I recently had to retrofit a good quality ballast(Sylvania Advance) into a Deep Blue HO fixture, from Kens, because BOTH ballasts quit within a year. Opened it up and they were plastic encased and hot glued to the case. And the other materials used in that fixture were total junk, including the reflector that was barely above the thickness of tinfoil. It all makes sense now that they package it in a nice box and it's appealing to the eye. One quick glance at that box, and you'll see a 90 day warranty! Hmmmm, I wonder why.
