What is the rule? Or the recommended output? I did a search but either got a million replys or 0 :( !!
Thanks

Im not really sure, but I think 3-4 times is minimum. I like to have more. I try to keep 10x filtration.

It is a 180g community tank....I'm not sure what I am trying to do :o I guess just sufficiently filter the tank. No real plants, fully stocked, good readings and upkeep.

For what? Turnover is largely dependent on what livestock you're keeping, in what size and shape tank, with what levels of maintenance and filtration.

I may have been underfiltered before too... I am asking b/c currently I have an aquaclear 500 and an emperor 400 running on the tank. I also have a penguin 330 running (I used it from the old tank I took down a while back to get the cycle going), however now I want to take that filter off so that I can sell it with the smaller tank I had bought it for. Just trying to figure out if I will be able to get away with the first two filters or if I will need to add more back on. Sorry to be vague, I'm not very knowledgable about filtration

180g, unplanted, with about 20 tetras, 5 clown loaches, 3 bala sharks, 1 rainbow shark, 1 common pleco, 1 bristlenose pleco, 11 corys, a couple of platys and a couple of guppys. I have sponges and filter floss in the filters now. I also have ceramic donut shaped things, but I haven't put that in. I guess I just want to keep my bacteria alive and help filter out waste. The emperor has 2 biowheels if that matters...

Depends on the filter.

HOB power filters should get at least 6 or so, but for canisters, they are slower, but more efficient. Also, smaller tanks generally get more GPH than larger tanks.

I have an aquaclear 500 and an emperor 400. With those 2 I am getting 5x turnover right now....
