I'd say you want total turnover of about 8-9 times an hour, but that includes power heads creating movement as well as the power of the filters. My goal is to have minimal dead areas, a few high flow areas, and the rest somewhere in between. With larger tanks, this is easier to accomplish, since you have more room to play with.
But--as long as the parameters are in the green and the fish are happy, you should be fine.

Since the tank is broken into 3- 2 foot sections, I currently have a filter in each section. Would that be a good way to keep things, and avoid "dead" spots, even if the third filter was of a smaller capacity(something made for 50 or so gallons)? I have a notch in my wall, it is supposed to be decorative, but all it does is limit the size of the filter in the middle section of the tank 
!!
P.S. My parameters are always good, but I rinse my sponges once a week and seem to get a good deal of crud out of them, which is also why I was wondering if I could use more filtration.

your only supposed to gently squeeze sponges out, im not sure how frequently, but it holds a lot of bacteria, which you want
