I was at PetCo the other day and saw a needle nose gar, or something along those lines, it must have been a baby, it was about 4in long and about 1/2 wide, i was admiring what an awsome fish this was so i went home and decided to do some research turns out they are huge fish, why would petco sell a fish that would get that big? or is this a different species?
Early on as a Newbie, I kinna thought that if it was at the LFS, it was safe to raise In an aquarium,....B/C THEY WOULDN'T HAVE FISH THAT SHOULD NOT BE IN THE HOBBY,...RIGHT?:headshake2:
But I've NOW seen it too many times & while I believe that Shops have the fish b/c people WILL buy them,...I also realize that at some point this was driven by MONEY & some of the people who collect these baby fish KNOW GOOD AND WELL that they shouldn't be offered & available in the trade!
Like a red tail Catfish,...or most Pacus, Jaguar Cichlids, many Plecos, Gouramis, Arrowpamas, & Arrowanas, Siamese tigers.... etc... and definetly...rays & Sharks to name a few.
THE KEY IS EXACTLY IN WHAT YOU DID F-STONE!
You researched the fish & found out what it was REALLY & what it would eventually become & what you would need to properly house it!!
If more hobbyist were like you,....many of the these fish that don't need to be sold,...WOULDN'T!!
