Garlic in food?

Thanks Leopardess and ScottoMacD I am definatly going to try this. ;)

I've been using garlic (sliced cloves in the filter as well as crushed garlic mixed into food) in my QT - started with a sick plec who didn't make it, kept treatment up until I knew his replacement was eating well. It makes your house absolutely reek, but it's worth it to help a sick fish back to health or coax a newly imported fish to eat prepared foods :)

Not sure what your feeding, but when I mix up a batch of beefheart for my discus, the garlic gets mixed right in along with a bunch of nutritional supplements (Calcium +D, Amino Acids, Antioxidants, a general vitamin supplement, minced shrimp) Its really only a preventative, that doesn't always work. If you do get a fish with intestinal parasites, you will have to treat it with a medication.

Can you soak Zucchini in Garlic juice

(For my clown loaches, They dont each Zucchini, Only Blood worms and frozen shrimp)

well I mixed some minced garlic with the frozen brine shrimp and they loved it. I went into a petco superstore the other day and the entire fish department wreaked of garlic.

None of my fish have any symptoms of parasites...my girlfriend just thought it would make them "feel better"

I have to completely agree here.

Using garlic with fish works on the same principle as using it with us.

It will not cure anything the fish has, but can go a long way in helping prevent problems from happening. Especially internal parasites.

With us garlic works as blood thinner among other things (ie: anti-oxident) and helps prevent things from happening to you as part of your preventative treatment but if you are already sick the garlic will not help much.

In both cases when there is already a problem that is when the meds come in.

Kamla, yes you can:)
