What! I just watched my panda garra suck on the side of my blue gourami. I didn't think garras were into that sort of thing.. Also, they don't really have the mouths for it. Or at least I thought.
He's never bothered my other slow-moving fish! And apparently he'd rather attack my gourami than eat the pellets and veggies I put in.
What is going on here?

Something simlar happened to me once a very long time ago:(
Mine actually sucked all my fish to death in the space of 2 days...
But i know it now with experience it was a lackof food source for him

So with you stating there is food in there for him... im really not to sure about it.... but all i can think of is that hes eating because hes hungry...

Anyways good luck :D

No, as soon as I put food in for him, he attacks it. And trust me, I put in enough for him.
It's the first time I saw him do that and he hasn't done it since.

Maybe there was somthing there he just liked the taste of?

my one actually stayed on the fish untill they died, i didnt have enough experience or this forum to help by the time nothing was left but a fatter garra

:eek3: I'm going to get some garra flavatra soon, I hope it's not true for all.

They're lovely little guys. Mine sleeps where the kuhlis live and comes out during the day to scoot about on the floor and the wall of the tank. When I got the pictus catfish, it spent all its time in the back corner next to the heater. My garra (who never EVER goes to that side of the tank) swam over to the pictus and attached to the wall next to the pictus. It was like he was trying to make friends :]
I feed him a LOT of shrimp pellets and he gets a hold of freeze-dried bloodworms occasionally. He also adores zucchini. He gets basically whatever he wants.
I don't want to give either of them up... obviously, the garra is about the most personable fish I have. But the gourami just warmed up to me. Ugh.

Never saw garras sucking the slime coat of my severums. I doubt it'll ever happen. This is very rare actually as they don't eat much protein in the wild. Undoubtedly, they eat algae and aufwuches much like the hillstream loaches.
