Maybe you got some in your batch that were captured using cyanide (do they use that in FW captures?) or another toxin and are now suffering the ill effects. Or, like with people, different genetic and individual factors can result in different reactions to the same stimulus, even within one species. For example, I'm allergic to fragrances and will break out in a rash if I use certain scented lotions. Other people could bathe in the stuff all day and never notice anything wrong!
