I have the opportunity to purchase a whole spawn of Pigeon Blood/Marlboro Red Discus Fry at dime size from a local hobbyist. I do not want to go ahead with this without potential buyers. If you are interested, please say how many in the thread.
They are housed in ph 7.8, gh 15, kh 8, Temp 86. They are home bred fish so they should be able to adapt to whatever water conditions they are acclimated to.
Yeah I will ship them....at least while they are smaller. They should be really reasonable. Basically what has happened is the guy had the two pair off. Thinking....oh I can do this he put them in a tank by themselves. They spawned. He now has a boat load of dime size fry that he is not sure what to do with. He has found out how much work they are and doesn't have the time. He doesn't want them to breed again and is going to separate the pair. He can't bring himself to cull. So I offered to "help" him out if the price was right and if I could cull the ones that needed to be prior to buying the rest. He tried his local LFS but they don't want that many. Anyway, I am looking at paying maybe $5 a piece for the ones I get. So depending on how many you want and how long I have to house and feed them, we are looking at way below what the going rate for them are.
If I can get them rehomed quickly, the price on them will be somewhere between $6 and $10. Depending on how many are ordered and how long I have to house and feed them.
Very much interested (would be 5+), because I'd love the challenge, and my bf wanted discus for his 75, but not sure if it would really be do-able thanks to time constraints. Plus, I don't know if it's the hardness of water here, or something else in my tap, but have never had good luck with keeping SA cichlids in straight tap water where I live.
Put me on the maybe list. I'd have to confer with other people too since they would eventually be going into someone else's tank.
