I have my pair of GBR for about 2 weeks now. Both are eating well, likes to chase the platys, very colorful and social.

The female has the obvious bright pink belly, but today I noticed she's more rounded. Not by much, and there's a tube-like thing (lol?) behind her lower fin, near the anus. Is this a good or bad sign?

Sweet! How do you sex a gbr?

For the wild type GBR, the easiest way to find out is by the female's pink underside.

There's the tip about blue specks running through the black spot means it's female, but I find sometimes there are blue specks in the male too.

The dorsal fin of a male is more pointed (square-ish) and the female's is round.

Males are usually larger than females with longer bodies where the female is more short and rounded.

I have 2 pairs, I think. The pink belly thing is the only one applicable in my case. Both males have blut dots on the black patch. They are under 2 cm so it's hard to tell. The dorsal looks the same to me. But the behaviour is different. One of the females is a cleaning lady, keep picking invisible stuff from the pot she likes. The other one is after the Endlers when they get in her territory. The males are just following them everywere. I got the girls first and they were fighting, kissing and stuff. Now they are separated and have companions which they don't fight with.
Unfortunatelly one pair is in a 10g for now ..... but they look happy with the shrimps they have as neighbours.

pink belly's are females.

The female's ovipositor usually comes out hours before it starts to lay eggs. Atleast in my cases.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Update: They spawned, I have at least 100 eggs. They're yellow/goldish with a white tip. Too bad it happened when I wasn't home.

Is there anything I have to do to make sure they hatch? I did a 10% pwc and removed all other fish and shrimps besides the parents.

whats the temp of the tank?

Make sure the eggs turn brownish. If they turn white they're not fertilized. They usually hatch in around 60 hours i believe. So you have a timetable them if you want to witness it.

Just make sure to keep up with the water conditions and keep it as clean as possible, and make sure not to overfeed.

You might want to put a prefilter or netting or media bad over the intake of the filter to make sure they don't get sucked up.

It's been about 24 hours, and they're much darker than before, none are white. The temperature is about 76-78 degrees. I'm using RO water to do PWC.
