Ok, I have a friend with a male and female leopard geko...she noticed the male digging around the sand like crazy and got sand all in the water thing she has for them in there. While smoothing the sand back out she found an egg. She is worried she may of harmed it when smoothing out the sand. She said it is kinda long but has a very soft shell.

She did remove it and placed it in a tank that she use to have a Boa in, so it has the heater and everything in it.

Can you give me any advice about how to care for it, also does it sound like she may of damaged it?

She may have damaged it but we won't know for sure. You could try candling it I guess. When she removed it, did she keep it the same way up as it was?
 
I have no idea, she just said it was really soft. She is afraid she did damage it though because she was shifting the sand and felt it under her hand.

What is candling it?
 
Candling is when you take a pen sized flash light and lightly press it against the egg. In a dark room they egg should glow slightly pink and have veins running through it if fertilized. If not fertilized, the egg looks yellow.

Dem leopard gecko eggs are very soft when freshly laid. gotta put them in a humid enviroment.. vermiculite or cocco fiber in a deli cup. If they dry out.. they're toast.
 
So, she needs to get vermiculite or cocco fiber (where would one get this) and what is it? I assume you put that in the cup and cover the egg with it, then put it in the tank with a heater...would that be right? What would she do to make it humid?

She did say it was VERY soft...she was also told that once the female lays an egg it will lay another one every month for 4 months after...is this true?

Thanks for the help tell me everything she needs to know please, even if this one doesn't make it, she will know what to do in the future
 
The leopard will lay 1~2 eggs a month depending on how healthy she is. Egglaying will stress her out a bit. You need to get the egg in an incubator. The delicup with a moist enviro will keep it alive for a while till mold sets in. Of which you can treat with a little erithro. but first see if the egg survives
 
Ok, so tell her to do the light thing and see if it is even fertilized if it is have her put it in the cup with moist fiber stuff and go from there then?
