Generally disturbing tone about some posts

I agree that the membership here is much tamer than most forums not limited to just fish, but forums in general.

Some folks just feel a need to flame. I think overall there is not much of that going on here.

I think it was worse a while back, it used to be when anyone newbie asked a question they were told they needed to test their water. Which of course they did not have or if they did it was (omg) test strips. If it was not asking for parms, then it was a blanket, your overstocked. Now, even if that happens, there is not a lot of people jumping on and someone will post something helpful.

Also, sometimes there is bad advice given. For example, "you need to do a water change" is not a fix all for everything. If a person is already doing regular water changes, then this does not help and is a person has not been doing regular water changes then this is the last thing that needs to be done.

I think there are some generally friendly and helpful members here. The mods do a good job.

Before you rush to judge someone for flaming a newbie, I implore you check those newbies other threads and posts. I don't think I saw the thread you all are specifically referring to, but I'll still argue that more often than not, the harsh words are not entirely unfounded. There are a select group of people here who continuously and deliberately put animals in bad situations, repeatedly ask for then ignore advice, and always come crying and feigning ignorance when their pets die or don't do well. You can't pull the noob card forever, and after a certain point, it's no longer ignorance of a subject, but nothing more than a stubborn unwillingness to learn. I have found in my time here, that people are first and foremost helpful, but there are some members, that you as a new member may not have encountered yet (count your lucky stars) that have the rest of us collectively fed up to the breaking point, and these are those that are most likely to get flamed. It's not because we're not trying to be helpful, but rather because some people have worn out the kindness of others.

I will have to agree with that statement. Sometimes there is more to a situation than just a single thread, and I'm sure some older members have run into those situations, myself included.

There is a difference between harsh criticism and personal attacks though, and you should never cross that line under any circumstances.

Ok, so time to be serious NOT!!!!!!

Personally, I am very guilty of doing away with proper grammar in favour of expedience of typing.

Have we not learned the language of the 21st century TYPONESE?

My mother was a teacher and she would shoot me if she saw the travesty of how I type sometimes, but, my typing teacher would love me for how fast I can type now!!!!
