I only have 2 male guppies in my 10g aquarium and a female molly. One night I spotted 4 fry swimming around. Now the fry are a month and one week old and I was wondering what a cross breed between a guppy and a molly would look like... And I was wondering too at what age will a guppy fry start getting its colors on its tale and body?

I have never heard about crossbreeding a guppy and a molly. I think it's impossible. So your molly was probably pregnant and gave birth to little mollies. If you have had a male molly sometimes he is the father, not a male guppy.

no freaking clue!!?!!?!?! i guess im going to have to wait untill the fry grow up and see. i have a small fry that is about a half smaller then the other 3 frys.. i just dont know what is going on in my aquarium! I've had the molly for a year now. :duh: :duh: :duh:

have you ever had a male molly? if so, how long ago? some fish (definitely guppies, not sure about mollies) can store sperm for a long time and produce several drops from one mating. did you do anything different with your tank that may have encouraged her to produce?

Now that I recall... i did have a male molly. but the both mollies where together for a month until the male died :( , what I did different was that I really got sick of cleaning the aquarium water so I didn’t clean it for 1 month and a week, 2 days after I cleaned it I spotted the baby fry swimming away from the female molly so I bought one of those spawning nets to keep them in it. That’s it, maybe the water change made her have the fry.

Guppies and mollies can and have interbred as both belong to the Poecilia genus. As for whether or not the fry will survive.... I can't say. The myriad of genetic problems that are possible will most likely remove most of the molly/guppies before they reach a size large enough for you to see. The ones that survive, I would think, are going to be steril just like endler/guppy crosses.

Regardless, I'd just enjoy them and see how they look.

So far 2 fry look just like the female molly witch has gold and black. I do have a black and silver fry and also I have a smaller fry that is falling back on its growth, the other fry are 2 times bigger then him, I’m thinking he might be a guppy. All the fry are a month and a week old.

Oh, I have only heard about crossbreeding platies and swordtails. That fact is told in almost every aquarium books and net sites. No one have ever said to me that mollies and guppies can have babies together too. I have never kept mollies and guppies in a same tank... So it was only a guess...
