Just curious as to whether or not these two can hybridize. I have a 2.5" brasiliensis in with five smaller firemouths and I started to notice how similar they look at their current sizes. It struck me that I may have to worry about the potential for hybridization which I definitely do not want to have happen. I've seen firemouths crossed with convicts, and heard of them doing so with Jack Dempsey of all fish, so I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Any thoughts?

I would think they wouldnt since firemouths are central american and brasiliensis are south american but there is only one way to find out. And at 2.5" you still have some time before the geo becomes sexually mature.
