On Tuesday I decided to add some German Blue Rams to my tank. I purchased two as I know they do well in pairs. I know that the fish are very territorial so I didn't think anything of it when I saw them both hanging out in the same part of the tank most of the time. After a few days of this I looked a little closer and noticed that one of them had about a dozen or so eggs she was guarding. She must have been pregnant when I purchased her.
Now here is what I am wondering...Both fish turn out to be Female and they both seem to be taking turns guarding the eggs. Does the fact that there are two females pose any problems?
Also I am wondering what I may need to get to make sure some of the fry make it. I know the parent will guard the eggs and the fry very well to the point they sometimes will keep the fry in their mouth to protect them...but are there any other precautions I should take like separating them from the rest of the tank after they hatch? (I do know if I plan to keep any of the fry I will need to get a bigger tank)
I am also wondering about how long it will take for the fry to hatch?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
