German Blue Ram Question

Knash...may I suggest that maybe she may be showing some signs of spawning behavior.....my female behaves like that when she is getting ready to spawn. Is your females' belly big? Do you have a male in the tank with her ? Another sign is that she bobs her head at the male in quick like motions...looks like a bad twitch....and also, if there are other fish in the tank the two will become more aggressive towards them.

Just having changed the water could have triggered her into the "mood".

Just a thought.. ;)

EMG I think youre right on the money...yes I have a male in there with her and they are definatley a pair and yes her belly has become noticabley bigger. I have seen no visible signs of parasites or anything else that would indicate she is sick, so I think she is getting ready......thanks for the responses ev1

Lol...what a relief huh !

Glad you didn't go the meds route yet...I was worried I saw the post too late and that you had started dosing with the meds.

I would suggest getting a growout tank started...just in case they are successful and you end up with babies. The first time my rams spawned...the morning I found the babies in the tank...(they were about a week and half old by the time I saw them!)...I went to work and when I came home they were all gone. Either eaten by mom and dad...or the gouramis that were in the tank with them. This next spawn I took the rock out that the pair had layed the eggs on...and put it in my guarenteen tank to hatch. Right now they are about 2 weeks old and seem to be doing fine...and my PH is 8.0! Rams like lower PH so I'm not sure how this will all end up, but so far so good anyway.

Good luck with your pair ! :D

Thanks for the advice!...I am actually setting up a 10 gallon sometime this week....I will definatley be keeping a close eye out.
