German Blue Ram

Heya,

Id get a pair or group of juvie rams for the 30 gallon and move the angels to the 65...

How many and what you keep depends on if you plan to breed and raise fry from these two species. They will do good together in the 65 if you do not want fry.. My angels lay eggs every 3 weeks, but the other occupants get to the eggs after a few days. LOL..

Good luck

i would be very careful. i kept 4 angels in a 55g for 6 months and eventually moved them to a 150g when it was purchased. when a pair forms (and at least one will) they will begin to fight and harass each other. there were several occasions when i almost loaded up the paired fish and sold them to an LFS. from experience a 55g is simply not enough room for 4 angels, because they will grow, become territorial, mate, and fight. even now, living in the 150g tank, they still chase each other and have arguments. if you try to fit 8 angels in your 65g, it WILL become a war zone in a few months.

it would be better to keep the angels you have now and not add any more. when a pair forms, decide if you will separate the pair into another tank or sell it (or sell the unpaired ones). get a bunch of rams, 5 or 6, instead of just one. or look for keyhole cichlids - very pretty, stay smallish, much more peaceful than angels.

oddly I have two spawning pairs in a 55 ..they will bicker from time to time but they have been in the tank for 2 years.(spawning) I have raise several of their brood. what you will find is that they will raise and even steal fry from the other pair.

that said ..it is best to keep pairs seperate..a 55 will only be large enough for the 2 pairs and not much else(bn's can take them).

I see, well then we are all set with the Angels, will look into keyhole chichlids, would definitely like to get a pair of blue rams.
Thank you again for your help.

Hiya,

I agree, when the angels get bigger and start pairing up, you may have some issues. I also love to raise angels and notice that when they are raised together that the agression isnt nearly as bad as when you add seperate pairs together. I think that there isnt any stay fast rules, but just be weary they may bicker and fight and if you notice some that are being overly harrassed, you can move them.

Good luck and keep us updated on how the blue rams do, I have been wanting them... I have a few species of kribs breeding right now!

Be well

Ang
