I've always thought that GBRs were beautiful fish, and I was wondering if I could add a pair to my tank? Its a 90 gallon sparsely planted with java fern and java moss. I was also wondering if this fish is hard to keep? I've heard that they are picky about water.

Water Parameters:
Ph: 7.5
Temp: 86F
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10-15

Tank Residents:
5 discus, 8 neon tetras, 4 corydoras virginiae, 1 striped raphael catfish, 8 rosy reds, 4 ottos

And how do you tell the difference between males and females? Since I would like a pair...

I think you can probably add a pair of German Blue Rams. I agree they are beatiful fish. Just watch out on any aggresion on the bottom side. Give them a cave, a place where the rest of your cories dont venture out to.

I think having one pair would be better. You can probably get another female or something so that they have more chances on breeding. But two pairs might not be bad for a 90G.

Hey, I just came across these pointers for determining GBR sex:

1) females have a more rounded tail and males have a more 'V' shaped tail
2) males have an elongated 2nd ray in the dorsal fin
3) males' dorsal and anal fins are more pointed at the end than females'
4) females have more red/pink hues on their belly compared to males
5) females are thicker/rounder when mature and able to mate

they are very picky fish about parametres. i got 1 in my 20. you could add a pair but id watch them carefully as them and the discus might not get along. lots of little hiding place required or they lose color from being stressed out.

if your tank has a 4' footprint(std 90) you may be able to keep 2 pairs.
the issue with Blue Rams is where you get them from. a local breeder is your best bet or wild caught if available. imports from some asian countries have been prone ti issues due to hormones added to the fish.(usually in the water)
