Getting a fire eel...

too bad you cant get the fire eel man. mine is about 11-12" long and hes a beauty (Sloan) the only downside of him is he eats so much. Hes been rased on bloodworms, ghost shrimp, and earthworms:)

Use egg-crate fitted to the inside lip of the top rim of your tank and weight it down and you'll pretty much be guaranteed of no escapes. That is of course that your eel or ropefish is to big to fit through the holes. LOL Egg-crate allows your tank to breathe unlike glass tops.

Not so.. read my other post.. I did this and had multiple 3lb weights as well as lighting and he still pushed it all aside and escaped.

Hey if yr still reading this, i owned 2 fire eels from about 6 inches and sold them on to a friend when they reacked about 14". they were great pets and ate anything, mostly bloodworm. They never managed to get out although they tried a few times. the larger eel would take food from the hand over the edge of the tank. the main prob with them is they really like to dig!!!! the amount of time that the dug up there pipe and everthing else normally after i hand just rearranged everything. Great pets quite alot of work and i think going up a tank size is a good idea by the end of the year

Hey i am still reading this:) I bought 2 of them a month ago about 20cm's each(8'') and thay ate off my hand from the first day!!!!It was amazing. I THINK THEY ARE THE BEST FRESHWATER FISH EVER , and so beautiful with all thos colours. I don't know why but they never dig my tank , they just swim all day and are very active. They never hide actually not even in there pvc pipe! Do they grow fast?i would really appreciate all info available:)

Yeah i told my self not to get them but it was love at first sight:) They're the cutest things you've ever seen and i'm currenty building a 600ltr tank so nothing to worry about there. And they get along with no fights e.t.c and they eat both from my hand(earthworms) so everything perfect so far:)

So let me get this straight...
You bought TWO fire eels?
Or Peacocks?

If you got the fire eels. You have greatly disappointed me. I thought you were going to do the right thing and take care of the 'beginner' eels first. Oh well.

I had one last year. Unfortunately due to the move, it didnt make it. Very hardy eel.
Got really fat and lazy that it would barely swim. Always hid in the 3"pvc pipe i had in the tank. Good luck with that. Had eel for 3 years.
