Getting a New Betta

I have my Rusty in a 10 gallon...he loves it....I also have some plastic plants and some wood (which make arches), so he can swim around and under the wood...I put his plants in the back corner of the tank so he could sleep in them at night (to get air)...nothing sharp should go in the tank ( I found that out the hard way)...he ran into one when chasing the jumbo neons and caused his right eye to go pop-eye///his eye is all better and he is back to normal....bettas also love java moss...I also have a heater, just in case it gets too cold, his temp is kept at 79-82...we have an air conditioner that has to be on because of our other 2 tanks (80 gallon has african cichlids and the 45 has south american cichlids)..their temps are generally not in the range of the bettas...I also have a AC 50. and it keeps the water nice and crystal clear....hubby named him rusty...:dance:

Thanks everyone! He will definitely not be getting a "betta tank" because it is obvious they aren't suitable for a shrimp even let alone a fish. He is going to check out the tanks within the next week or so and then he will decide whether the internal or HOB filter will be best. The largest size tank he can get is a 5 gallon but he will try to get that size. He will also get a heater, thermometer, and soft fake plants. Thanks again everyone and I will put some pics on here when he gets it!
 
I normally do weekly 25% changes on all my tanks but a betta alone in a 5 you could probably get by with every 2 weeks or so. In that small of a tank WC takes maybe 4 or 5 minutes.
 
I have a Crowntail in a ten gallon with an Apple Snail, some Trumpet Snails, and lots of Ghost Shrimp. He doesn't pay them any mind.
 
Make sure the heater is submersible. Otherwise they tend to get stuck. Bettas like to sleep near the surface and upright heaters (they think) make a great bed. Submersible heaters are, I think, easier to hide and dispense the heat a lot more evenly. Just make sure the heater is close to the bottom of the tank.
