Some of mine prefer to send roots a ways down toward & into the substrate rather than attach to the wood they're tied to. Just looking for more nutrients than are in the water column I think.
After a while some substrate will become attached to the older roots & help hold it down. Wait & see what the new roots & rhizome do, it may be ok-
