Getting fish to eat new food

I agree, when they get hungry enough, they will eat whatever food you give them.

Ive heard the freeze dried foods a lot of times causes bloating with fish cause it exapands in there stomach or something. They say to saok it first to avoid this....seems like more trouble than its worth.

I also saw a jar (yes, a glass jar) of daphnia in water. It was only 99 cents for the jar. I was thinking about picking it up, but knew nothing about daphnia and was a little wary of how long it would last

It's a starter culture. Not really meant for you to feed directly, but to culture them and feed the offspring. Daphnia are a good source of variety, albeit not super nutritious. Take the daphnia and split them up in several jars/bottle/whatever (do this because sometimes cultures can crash for no apparent reason, kinda of "don't put all you eggs in one basket thing"). Add tank water to fill the jars. Dissolve yeast in a little water and add enough to each jar to make the water a little cloudy. In a few days the daphnia will clear the water of yeast and you add more. Eventually you have a jar that is full of daphnia. They also like "green water", like what you'd get if you left water out in the sun with a pinch of food to produce ammonia. More trouble than it's worth? Probably, but watching the fish go after them is fun fun fun.
