I am planning on getting some Guppies for my black and white 10 gallon tank. Currently there are 4 Panda Cories and 4 Mystery Snails in there. I wanted to know what you guys recommended for how many I should get.

I also just want to double check with you guys that there are no temperment issues with getting all males, as I don't really have space to breed them at this time.

Thanks,
Curtis

I have 2 male guppys who actually seem quite fond of each other :p: !! I was told that it was basically impossible for them to harm each other though too. How many?? I would think 5 or 6 would be fine, will they, the corys and snails be the only fish? My guppys are usually at the top of the tank most of the time, so your mid section will possibly be pretty empty

Why don't you get a breeding trio..1 male , 2 females, and see what happens?

yea, since you dont have room for too many fish i would get half a dozen males. some of the females do have some colors in the tails it would make a better tank with the colors of the males.

I would like to get a mix of male and female but I'm worried that I don't have the capacity to handle a possible population overload. I'm not worried about colors because I planned on finding mainly black and white guppies to keep with the theme.

any extra guppies you get you can always bring to an lfs...they use them for feeders if nothing else. Most will get eaten before they get too big, but you will have some survivors...I have been seeing at least 5 little giblets swimming around avoiding the larger fish....lol....they're on their own though..if they can survive..good for them but I wont' be wasting any tears on them if they don't since I have a 10 with about 30+ fry already.

I would get 2 males and 3 females or 4 or 5 males. With the cories and the snails in there I would be cautious about overloading the tank. Be sure it's good and cycled before you add anymore fish though.

what type of guppy are you looking to get for that tank ? :dance2:

I want to stick with just black and white colors. The tank has been up for around 2 months now and was instant cycled with Bio-Spira. Use that on all my tanks.

Just got back from the LFS and picked up a few males. Guess I'll go with the all male approach for now. Eventually if I get room I'll get some females. I just don't want to have to worry about breeding right now.

Thanks everyone for the help.

then why not penguin tetras or 3 black skirts or even some zebra danios?

if you get females im sure the other guppies will eat up most if not all of the babies anyways.
