Does anyone have any suggestions on getting rid of duckweed? Or even an easier way to catch the little floaty things? Any help would be appreciated.

when I had duckweed in my 55's I used a big net, but never got rid of it totally, a big net and removing the filters so you reduce the flow and get to all the corners and hiding places but its pretty much a losing battle.

LOL I think I am discovering that.

Mine has disappeared. I got a big net out and got out the majority of it, and then added an additional filter (whisper 3). Between that and my eheim canister, the duckweed has been eaten by the filters... Or that is what I assume is happening. Whatever it is, it's been getting rid of it, and it's not growing back like I thought it would. There are no fish in the tank yet to be eating it, so it's got to be the filters. I did see a post on here a while back about a homemade skimmer to help get rid of it, and I think it was working.

I had a bunch in my 20 gallon and now have very little, if any. I netted most of it (and gave it to my turtle, who thinks it's a great food). I also let the water in the tank get low (it doesn't have a lid), and what was left got pushed under the water and sucked into the filter.

It's a real pain. I introduced a small amount of duckweed into my 20g tank that was in a bag of cherry shrimp I had ordered. Since then I've been dipping it out with a brine shrimp net every water change. Sometimes some of it gets into my bigger tank when I am doing maintenance but the overfiltration on that tank seems to suck it up before it can get traction.

good luck! I got a few tiny little bits that came with a plant order, been battling it ever since! in my 150, the top gets completely covered weekly. I go in with a net and scoop out as much as I can. The problem is, 1 little leaf will stick to the net and then vwalla, another tank gets contaminated with it. PRetty soon, the stuff's everywhere!

The "overflow your tank" idea sounds like it might work, but having done this before, all it flushed out was a few stupid mollies....onto the couch LOL.

Marbled crayfish loves Duckweed....at least mine do....when my 50g tank is filled with duckweed and Frogbits...I would net them out and put them all in my 240g(marble crayfish tank)...after several weeks all gone...
