no disrespect

I have 8 brevis and are doing well,I plan to go 20 long when fry starts to show up.Of course i know i cannot have dovii ect.Or Oscars,But i ve had great success so far.33 mollie babies ,i had 2 JD in a 10.whic article on brevis, ive read all over until i descided to order them.Id love to be able to have a huge tank,But for the lower class as i am i do things this way.Plus spine is crumbling so i cannot use a huge tank. Also have pair of firemouths. they seeming to fair well.but i have their surroundings to a T,replt to which article and i will read it..But No i am not dumping my 10 or 20 or my 5 Kinda like the saying goes, its not how big it is ITs how you use it..Libby

Uderstandable ,no way an oscar or such fish can live in a 10 or 20.But i give my fish top care very clean tanks and have them in their own wnvirnmoents.Telling me to dump my 10 gallon was a put down or maybe he didnt meanit that way but it sure sounded like it.My fish are healty andtaken care of.studied and am always up for good advice not smartcracks.so im coming off as an insult.Because i cant afford a huge tank.anyone have one to donate ill be happy to take it off your hands..lol

Absolutely wouldnt keep either in a 20 even.I believe that fish do suffer the overcrowding and being miserable in their tanks.I usually study a month before i descide what i want or can afford. Thanks

If that comment was for me ive gotten 5 10 gallon tanks and a 5.My fish have lived for 4 years..so no im not having a problem here.what about you..Disability keeps me from having larger tanks so i have 10 and 1 20 long and 1 5 gallon easier to take care of one for each day of the week,,hmmm i need 1 more dont i..Sounds like those of us who cannot affor a 100 gallon arent too respected. But do appreciate your sarcastic opinion.

well it wasn't for you and I didn't even know that you had 10 gallon tanks.

It was for this :mad2
10 gallon
1 red tiger oscar
3 kennyi
2 purple acies
1 pleco

A larger tank is as easy to take care of and look in the classifieds you can great deals on all sizes of tanks. 1 55 would be just as easy to care for then 6 smaller tanks. Do you have heaters on all of them, fitlers, lights? If you do as are needed in tropcial tanks the money will add up. You could have bought a 55 by now. What kind of fish do you have in your tanks?? They may have lived for 4 years, so are they dead now, but have they had the best conditions?

And to start the original post was in the WANT ADS and then he titled it getting rid of fish, and then he said he wants to get very large fish for the tanks he has. I just said that if he is looking for those large fish he needs first to provide for the fish he already has.

Now that you said what you've kept in your 10 gallons the JD are not 10 gallon fish

Im so glad!

Ive had some real toots ,who have downed the fact i dont have this or that so ,,<my appologies>I came in on conversation at wrong time and got the next..But i love my fishies...Im a fish nut.I will clean a tank before i wash dishes lol.Yes agreed in working on trying to get a 20 long for JD .Do you think that will be sufficient?Like i said in mail earlier im always up for good advice.Ive gone to pet stores and seen these Oscars. They are giants, and no way would i put them in a 10..agreed.The JD came by a salesperson who didnt know what the grab bag i won from newly opened store was.So i have them alone,But they hide always.Male and female im sure. But are awesome fish.So ive descided to try and find a tank larger so i can keep them.Outherwise id find a home better suited.I do not like to see them suffer.Pampered is the word i use for my dog and fish...Sorry if i jumped too soon.Ive read alot of your posts and forgot you get down to bottom line and hate to see people buy fish without studying first!...Libby :(

I'm sorry if I was rude also. I know its an expensive hobby. I'm just getting back on my feet so I know whats its like not having money for fish or supplies, but if I couldn't buy food for me the fish got theres first :) If you look in the classifieds you can find some REALLY good deals. I found some one not to far from where I am and he is GIVING away tanks, I was going to get the 60 gal he had but I don't have the room for it (YET). I'm not sure what size tank would work with a JD. I had one in a 10 when it was a half inch till about and inch to grow out and now she is in a 55. These fish are messy like oscars so a larger tank with a lot of filtration is needed. They can get upwards of 8" so at a min. a tank where they can turn around in. how wide is a 20Long, I could see a convict pair in one so it may be a ok home but not the best home. A 40 gallon breeder isn't as high as a 55 but wide and long so I would say this would be a better min. for the JD in the long run. Also I can see that you kow that some fish wont do well in a small tank and will do the best you can for it. a lot of people won't and don't

40 breeders have a larger footprint than 55s do. They (40BR) are 18x36= 648 square inches, 55gals are 12x48=576 inches square. With most cichlids I would think that the foot print of a tank is much more important than the height.

Thank you

I have been in it for years adding one tank at a time..LOL But good news i founf a 55 with all acc.for 51.00. well so far its on ebay and i bidded last night..Our power bill have shot up and until you wrote that i didnt realize all these tanks were whats making it jump.See Your a sweet person first impressions sometimes are very wrong like mine was with yours. But i am trying to find a bigger home for my JD..I had gotten them at a grab bag in a grand opening gift.Didnt even know what they were..But boy they have stole my heart.they arent aggresive.and the coloring is out of this world.problem,I know may seem like a a sob story.lol but true.I signed the divorce paper 4 days ago.so i have had a pissy attitude.he has left me for hmmm?and im disabled with a 40.00 comp income and moving into apartments when ive always lived in rural area.So yea i got the attitude! I am so sorry for..Your posts are always direct and to the point and thats good...Ive followed your advice on alot of posts. And the oscar is crazy in a 10 gal tank..So proceed on and givem --- lol..I am truly sorry. Libby Thanks for replies...

Tanks

Tanks can be had used pretty easily, and cheap. I have bought tanks for $.50/gallon before. Bigger tanks are more efficent, provided you have a bunch of fish that can be housed togather. If you want more space but can;t afford a tank, here's one thught- you can always hook up everything to a plastic storage tub. I have seen people using these for growouts etc. Its one idea.

I know lots of disabled hobbists. If you do get bigger tanks, get a python or similiar so you don;t hurt yourself taking care of the fish. I personality have a connective tissue disorder, and I know how hard it can be to be disabled and in pain. With ingenuity I am able to tak ecare of my multipe tanks. I breed fish for some income on the side (modest albeit)

python,,

Ive heard alot of the pythin.I need an easier way than buckets to clean with..I will look into that.My back has 3 ruptured discs, blood clot damage to legs, and stage 3 spinal stenosis.so yea will take advice on pythin thanks Libby
