getting rid of snails in the tank

There are only a handful of loaches that fit into 20 gallon tanks and most are not very effective getting at snails. Also, puffers are not the best tankmates in community tanks...I think it is a little haphazard to suggest fish when we do not know the original stock list ;)

assassin snails all the way. i keep 1 on hand that i move between 3 tanks depending on where i need him to get rid of some snails. the best part is you still get the benefit of some of the snails in there to eat extra food without them taking over and ruining the look of the tank.

Agree with this. Buying a fish to solve an issue, whether it be snails or algae, without really wanting the fish or being able to care for it for it's lifetime is lazy and irresponsible.

I am careful not to overfeed (1x per day), and my nerite snails keep things so sparkling clean otherwise, that the pond snails don't have an excess of food to support a population boom. When I start to notice the pond snails getting ramped up, I squish them for a snack for the fish.

I am pretty sure yoyos would be fine in that tank for a while IME as the ones that I have had in my 72G for 6 months are still 4" and I got them at 3.5". Assassins work, but you hardly see them, if you have a mag float, just smash up all the snails that are on the sides/front/back of the tank.
