Is there any medications safe for fish that will kill off the snails? My tank is getting over run with snails that I didn't want in the first place.

snails

I know there is a item called rid-a-snail or had-a-snail, not sure of the exact wording. I have never tried it, so can't tell you if it works. The easiest thing to do (may take some time) is to cut back on the amount of food going into the tank and use either lettuce, cucumber, spinach or zuchini in the tank and by the next morning it will be covered in snails. Just remove the vegetable and pick off the snails.

No. Snails die, wait for the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates results.

i read that if you put a penny in your filter they will all die bcuz they cant stand copper. but im not sure if thats safe for the fishes

It is not. A lot of coins contain other heavy metals which is dangerous to the fish. Consider this one of the worst methods on the same level with the chemicals.

I have this problem. My tank was just fine until one of those suckers got in. Now, it's a snail explosion. They are eating the pleco wafers that I put in for my pleco. I want to get rid of them. I may try a cucumber cut long ways and seeded. That way, the pleco can eat it too. Hopefully, I can get a whole cucumber full of snails out at the same time. they are driving me crazy and eating my pleco's food. I wish I had fish that like to eat snails. Mine might be I guess, they haven't been going after their food too much lately.

The "weekend feeder" blocks work well too. They congregate on them, then you just remove the block, snails and all.

Best solution is to rid your mind of the outdated notion that snails are pests.

They are better understood as they really exist - part of a healthy aquatic ecosystem.

There is nothing that snails will ever do to harm your system or any of its inhabitants.

And there is a lot they will do to enhance it - consuming detritus and algae. Therefore rethink the idea of going through a whole bunch of trouble to commit genocide on an organism that is doing you no harm - and plenty of good.
