I have had fish in my tank for about two weeks and it seems that I am learning something new each day.
This morning I turned on the tank light and it was still dark outside, and in the room. I noted that two of the fancy guppies were lying on the bottom. The looked fine but they were not moving at all. I figured that they were not doing well. I also noted that my five neons had no color at all and I wondered about that. I took my dog for a walk and looked again when I got back in. The two guppies were fine, running around with the others and the neons had all their color back.
I have two dwarf gouramis and one is always on the move and goes everywhere in the tank. The other hides for half the time and slowly swims the other half. I have four red gouramis and they all act about half way between the two dwarfs, moving and darting some and hovering and hiding other times.
The four cories hide in a cave most of the time. They do come out and are the fastest fish I have darting up down and all around. Three hang out together and one seems to stay by himself.
The guppies must be corting but they will many times all congregate at one end. One or two female swim from the bottom toward the surface leaving the four males at the bottom. Then one or two of the males race up after the female(s). They will do this for hours.
I guess they all have their own characters.
