GF put this in my tank... what is it?

JUST GOT A NEW PIC OF IT, finally came out for the first time with the lights on... I tricked it by turning them off for a few.

I'd try at Monsterfish.com there are probably people there that have that fish.

that isn't a real website is a referral search site off of information.com aka a adwords spam site.

Go to the very very top of the page you are on right now. There will be a blue banner with a pull-down menu. Go into that menu and choose the MonsterFishKeepers site.

It shares some characteristics of the Wolf Fish,Hoplias Malabaricus, and indeed of the two commonly kept Hoplias fishes. Especially when you look at this photo here!: http://www.salta.gov.ar/medioambiente/CazayPesca/Image7.gif

But the fact that the fish you have sports two dorsal fins, whereas H. Aimara and H. Malabaricus have only one. This is illustrated in this photo. Aiamara is the lighter-colored, Malabaricus the darker: http://www.mikofish.com/images/Ho ai Ho ma 2.jpg

I'm looking all over the place, but I'm not seeing anything that comes close to your little bug-eyed fella. I'd go back to the store and ask to see their stock-supplier list for that season. At least that'll narrow down the search.

Small fish stores receive supplier sheets. It's a list of fish available for purchase from that supplier during that season. They wouldn't have been able to get something from anywhere other than those lists unless someone brought that fish in from their personal tank, but surely they'd have remembered someone bringing in something like that. So maybe with a list of names we would have something to work with.

I have no clue anymore, I am ready to give up. This thing is a crazy preditor, I am in the process of trying to net it and put it in isolation for the time being.

It has ate in the past three days:
1 Glass Cat Fish
1 (all black he was so cute) Balloon Belly Molly
2 Tiger Barbs
1 Female Betta
and Killed my Spotted Emerald Puffer

Our take has alot of driftwood and a lot of plants so it is hard to tell what was missing until the death list went up... soon as I realized my trio of tiger barbs was down to one I knew something was up and started pulling stuff out and low and behold.... WHAT A MONSTER >:o
:mad2:
