I have more tanks that I'm wanting to get set up, but the classic problem of where to put all these things. I only have about 6 feet on one wall in my house as my "fish room". Also finding stands for the tanks that are *stable* seem to be impossible to find for a reasonable price.

So here's what I'm thinking - cement block pillars, 2x4 supports (3 across), and plywood on top of that to give the tanks a good even surface to sit on:

1 tier would be good, at least I could get my two bigger tanks up and running along with my current 10 gal:

2 tiers would really make me happy - I could get all my tanks up and running:

Any thoughts?

Looks like it should work fine to me.....

Only thing I might change is to make the shelves one continuous piece instead two half length ones.....this should make it abit more stable from side to side. One 8' sheet of plywood could be used and cut to size to get your two 6' long shelves

Ya, it'll work. One of the LPS's has pretty much all thier tanks on a two tier setup. The've got the bottom tanks offset forward from the top tanks, which you might want to try (gives more access room).

if i ever go this route (i will one day) i'd cover the cinder blocks with leftover plywood and paint that. maybe plywood/2x4 on the bottom?

just double check the 2x4s so they are straight as can be.

If there is any crowning of the boards be sure to put the crown up....so it will settle straight with weight applied.

I personally would go with 4x4's instead of the 2x4's, would add much more strength to the setup. I would also go with the second setup, like you said you could add all your tanks, just make sure to add enough clearance for the lower tanks for water changes, lighting and tops. Other then that, should work out fine.
