Ghetto Aquarium Stands

have you thought about a rack? you should be able to get all that on a 48inch rack.

I thought about it briefly but my main concern would be one of my ornery boys trying to scale it and pulling the whole thing over on himself. That would be a great option if I can anchor it to the wall though - certainly solves the "wood getting wet" problem.

2x4's will be fine, as will 4" blocks..no need for the full size 8" blocks.

I personally would go with 4x4's instead of the 2x4's, would add much more strength to the setup.

Thanks for the suggestion - I thought about that if I were to put a 55 up there. One of my friends has a 55 and a 40 he's trying to get me to buy on the cheap... if I do 4x4's it'll be. <sigh> I need more room :)

they are stable but you can anchor it to the wall. it would be very easy to do. these would be more money then what you had but you would be able to put more tanks in less area. if you really wanted to you could even get 4 shelfs on the ones i have.

A lfs near me uses blocks, but puts the 2x4s and 2x6s through the holes in the blocks. In the warehouse they have tanks 120 gallons and bigger three rows high using this method and it works great.

Wow three rows like this? I'd love to see that. Three rows would rock because I could get a 55 in the middle :)

I figured by putting the blocks on their "sides" (holes visible) you'd be losing a lot of strength in the block, but maybe we're not dealing with enough force to worry about that.

Can you get pics of his setup to post?
