Ghost/Amano Shrimp and Eggs

Will ghost or amano shrimp eat fish eggs/wigglers/fry? If not, would a good colony of either be able to keep a tank cycled enough to handle hatching fry?

What would good food be for either? Just drop some flakes in a couple times a week and have some java moss?

I'm no expert, but my ghost shrimp don't eat or pick at the bunches of snail eggs that get deposited around my tank. This may be because the only bunches I see are up on the glass, and the shrimp don't hang out suspended midtank. Also, the snail eggs are pretty small, and encased in a lot of jellylike goo.

I do like your idea though, I'd love to have a shrimp tank, they are so fun to watch. Doubling as a breeder tank would be an added bonus!

I've seen my ghost shrimps catch and eat platy fry in the first few days of their life, but they generaly leave them alone after that. Never had Amanos can't say. As for food, anything that reaches the substrate and stays there would be good enough. I don't know about a couple of times a week though, I'd suggest feeding them once or twice a day, like you would feed your fish. Java Moss isn't required, but any plants would certainly be helpful.

I will no longer keep Amanos in tanks with egg-layers (fish, not snails).

No experience with Ghosts in breeder/hatch tanks, other than Ghost-only - where for me they definitely do cannibalize their young.

Yeah, it seems like there really isn't anything that would go well in a hatchery. Instead, I have a 2.5g AGA tank that I will put water from the parents' tank plus a sponge or two that I'll keep in the filter of the parents' tank for a couple weeks. That should provide enough bacteria to grow with the fry. Once the fry have been free-swimming a couple days, I will move everything in their tank to a 20g long for grow out. I'll seed a sponge filter in one of my larger tanks as well to put into the 20g long.
