Are ghost shrimp just as sensitive to copper as cherry shrimp? I wanted to get some cherry shrimp but I'm worried that my tank has copper in it so I wanted to test it with a ghost shrimp ^_^" I'm thinking it might be. I used Mardel CopperSafe a few months ago. I also have copper pipes in my house.

The ghost shrimps will be just as sensitive to copper as the cherry shrimps. Try testing the ghost shrimps for a few days or weeks.:)

In my experience, copper is bad for all inverts, especially shrimp. Since ghosts usually sell for ~30 cents, they make excellent test subjects.

Got my test subject today at PetCo for 50 cents. It's been 3 hours and he seems fine. Swims around a bit. Eating well. Grabbing fish flakes from the surface of the water and constantly picking at my gravel and plants. Hopefully he'll still be alive a week from now so I can order some nicer looking cherry shrimp. Thanks for the info, guys.

hmm...that's a good idea...perhaps i should pick up a ghost shrimp "tester" before my RCS get here.

on a side note, is there any good product(s) that will test the copper content in my tank?

Just to update: Ghost shrimp made it to the weekend. Ordered some cherry shrimp and put them in on Monday. Day 3 and they're all healthy, bright red, and active.
