ghost knife companions

Although I have always loved ghosts I am not going to get one... thanks a lot everyone esp aquaghost... we must have similar interest in fish huh. I dont really care if my rams breed but it just would kind of be an added bonus but im not going to strive for it. But I do love my rams none the less so I dont want to risk them getting eaten so I think now maybe an elephant nose? I just want to have a "weird" fish that is not common

I've got ghost knife, and fed him some guppy feeders, well wouldn't you know I have 3 mature guppy now. He loves his bloodworms and brine and market shrimp and is too lazy to hunt fish. Keep him well fed and no problems.
Your rams wil be ok, but the eggs can be eaten by any fish in the tank, the rams included just fyi.

The clown loaches are the most likely candidate to go after the ram eggs as per what you have in the tank.
Don't forget, the ghost can grow to 20 inches but more likely only 12 in captivity. I've got mine in a 66g now, but in a year or so, he'll go to 100 or 120. He grows about an inch every 6 months so, growth is slow.

I got one yesterday!!!!! I have decided on moving the Blue Rams into a 10g planted tank that I will start up once the ghost gets about 4-5" until than I feel that they are perfectly safe since its only about 2". I have tried precision feeding as aquaghost had suggested, however mine has still not accepted any food... it sits there for a while before the clowns finally find it. I think hes just a little stressed still, but will be fine in another day or so... Im going to try some live brime or blackworms today after I get off... Does anybody know how to store these or do you have to use them all at once. This morning the loaches were sharing the new plastic rock looking cave I purchased when I bought the knife, it was cute

I and others here have found that it can be worrisome when you first bring the ghost home and try to feed him.
They are slow to figure out where food is and how to get it.
What I'd do is mix bloodworms in with a cup or so of tank water and pour a bit of the juice where he hangs out, until he gets the scent and comes poking out looking.
Try this under subdued room lighting.
Finally, when he's out poking around, drop in the worms by using the weight of the water in the cup or container so they hit bottom.
Later, all you need to do is spill some 'worm or brine shrimp water' to signal feeding time. Out he'll come looking for the worms.
Goodluck. Nice choice :)

PS: I buy frozen brine, daphnia bloodworms and feed occasional market shrimp (grocery store) cut up into tiny pieces. I don't feed live.......ICK!

Good for you for deciding on the ghost knife. Awesome fish. Anyways, he'll start eating in a couple days. Also I found that mine was ok with the smaller fish once he got to know them. He was a bit of a bully at times but nothing serious. Be careful with water quality because bgks are really sensitive. And about the elephant nose, my boyfriend tried putting one of those in with a bgk and it tore the elephant nose to shreds. Maybe because they're both electric? I have hand tamed my silver dollars, I never did get around to doing it to the bkg (a little deceased now, if it doesn't have ick, make sure it's not in the tank when you treat the tank). But I trained the silver dollars by taking a clump of frozen (thawed) food and dangling it in the water, they're pretty avid feeders so they usually come up and take the food out of my fingers. Good luck. :) And I hope you have fun with your cool fish.
