Ghost Shrimp Experts?

i saw a bunch of the ghost shrimp at petsmart yesterday and a few had the white worms you are talking about. it was the first time i ever saw it too. i have had all kinds of shrimp and i know it is not part of their anatomy. i wonder why there arent many discussions on it with shrimp being so popular in the hobby. they may not kill the shrimp but are probably contagious. someone must know more.

One shrimp in a community tank is fine. I had one for months. I miss the little fella. He used to pinch other fish at feeding time to get to food. It didn't hurt the fish but they did move away.

Q

mine have never bothered my community tank fish in my 55g?

I've learned that this worm is a common shrimp parasite. Often times an infected shrimp will pass the parasite and live.

If you find others, QT the infected shrimp, in a tank with acceptable water conditions. Do not add medications, just wait. When the parasite passes you will find the long white worm squirming on the substrate, or possibly swimming. Capture and kill it.

Once the worm has passed the shrimp is safe to return to it's original tank.

do you know if say, it died in saltwater and you fed it to another animal that the worm would live?
